Above the dense streets of Manhattan, New York City takes shape through a different lens stripped of its noise, its urgency, its human scale. Shot from a helicopter in 2017, this series transforms one of the world’s most recognizable urban landscapes into pure geometry: a labyrinth of steel, shadow, and light seen from a perspective few ever witness.
The decision to shoot in black and white was not aesthetic it was essential. Color would have anchored the image to a specific time and place. Without it, Manhattan becomes something almost abstract: raw, powerful, and quietly overwhelming.
This series was exhibited in Lisbon in 2019, where it drew international attention for its ability to reframe the familiar as something grand and new.
